The birth of a new life, or a few words about cannabis seedlings

The variety has been selected, the seeds have been purchased, and if not yet, then you are here. It is the first two weeks in the life path of marijuana that are key when it is most vulnerable. It is at this moment that it is important not to leave her to the mercy of fate.

As dramatic as it sounds, it is at this stage that many growers lose the plant and become frustrated, which leads to a complete refusal to grow seeds at home. Forewarned – forearmed. In fact, there are a few rules to consider in order to avoid negative results and grow a healthy plant.

Seed preparation period for seedling

One of the challenges that both novice and experienced growers encounter is how to sprout cannabis seeds. There are several ways that have been tried and tested not only on cannabis seeds:

Soaking. A glass of distilled water at room temperature is taken, where the seeds are thrown to soak for about a day. It is advisable to put it in a dark, warm place (20-24⁰). The sprout will break through the shell, and the “tail” will appear.
Paper method. The seed is placed between two layers of paper napkin and placed in a container with minimal air access for 48 hours. A warm environment is needed again.
The sprout is now ready to plant. The choice of soil is responsible, you can buy ready-made packaging in any gardening store, which will save you from additional fertilization. Whether you plant it directly in the soil or in some kind of seedling container depends on your desire. Let’s consider the main options. Box. More seeds are placed than in individual cups, but there is a higher chance of making mistakes when replanting the seedlings, such as damaging the roots.

Plastic cassettes. More improved due to drainage holes, easy to detach and easy to get seedlings. Peat cups. Pure organic, Greenpeace would approve of this choice. But seriously, there are enough advantages here: they are “breathing”, there is a possibility of further transplantation directly from the glass – peat will serve as an additional source of nutrients plus minimal trauma to the root system.

Materials at hand: disposable plastic cups, packaging for juices, yoghurts, etc. Cheap and cheerful. Remember to make holes in the bottom for moisture drainage.

Lighting

So cannabis has made its way to the surface of the earth. It is now vital to support the process of actively developing photosynthesis. An 18 hour sunny day would be ideal. But where to get so much sun? Can you replace it with artificial lighting? The lack of rays will negatively affect the stem – it will begin to bend towards the light source, wasting all its energy on this.

Of course, lamps will not create the full spectrum of rays that the Luminary gives us, but combining different spectra can be a great way out. Warm colors are ideal for seed germination. Cool shades strengthen the plant and enhance cell growth.

A good alternative to natural light is LB or LBT fluorescent lamps with a capacity of 65-80 W. They are placed at a distance of 20-35 cm from the container and are switched on mainly in the morning, evening and in cloudy weather.

Watering

It should be immediately stipulated that it is necessary to water the seedlings even before planting. And only not cold, but warm, close to room temperature water. In other words, the soil in which the seed is planted must be moist. Here, too, you should be careful and not overdo it: the earth should not smear and stain.

Before the seedlings emerge, daily not very plentiful watering is recommended. After that, you should stop moisturizing for 1-2 days to allow the cannabis stem to grow stronger. And yes, if you dig a little deeper into agro-cunning, you can find out that it is better to water not directly near the stem, but a little at a distance. It is said to help avoid certain illnesses.

How to understand that you have over- or underwatered? The leaves became yellow – lack of moisture, brown and curling – too much.

Picking

The kid has grown up and now needs more space. This happens about 10-12 days after planting the seed in the ground. Transplanting into a container with a larger volume is useful for the plant, because in the previous place, there is little room for a strengthened and overgrown root system.

The plant is carefully removed along with an earthen lump, it is better not to touch the hemp stem, so as not to accidentally damage it. Then it is transplanted into a pre-moistened container and watered again. This is a kind of stress, so after the procedure, you should limit access to bright light sources for a couple of days.

It remains to apply the acquired knowledge in practice. Seedling preparation, watering, lighting and replanting are all you need to get a quality harvest. Hemp is not such a capricious creature, if it is ensured that these points are met. You should not stop and lose heart if the plant does not meet any expectations from the first time. Experience comes with practice, right?
